NWSL Challenge Cup | First introduced in 2020, the Challenge Cup made history as the first professional team sports competition to return during the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament has since become a highly anticipated fixture, with full coverage available in both clean and dirty feeds alongside melts. Among the most memorable moments is Alex Morgan’s dramatic game-winning goal against Gotham FC, part of a run that also saw San Diego Wave FC retire their first jersey in her honor.
NWSL Liga MX Femenil Collaboration | The partnership between NWSL and Liga MX Femenil has expanded opportunities for cross-border competition and player development. - + 2016 Western New York Flash win the title in a dramatic penalty shootout, before later relocating to become the North Carolina Courage.

- + 2020 The inaugural NWSL Challenge Cup is staged in Utah, the first professional team sports competition in the U.S. following the COVID-19 shutdown. Houston Dash win their first trophy.

- + 2022 The league expands to 12 teams with the arrival of Angel City FC and San Diego Wave FC. San Diego’s Alex Morgan claims the Golden Boot in their debut season.
- + 2023 Gotham FC win their first NWSL Championship in front of a record-breaking crowd of 25,011 at Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego.
- + 2023 Kansas City Current’s Michelle Cooper scores the fastest goal in league history, just 22 seconds into a match against Washington Spirit on June 18.
- + 2023 The Thompson sisters combine for a historic assist and goal, becoming the first siblings to do so in NWSL history.
- + 2023 A new all-time league attendance record is set when 40,091 fans watch Bay FC take on Washington Spirit at Oracle Park on August 23.
- + All-Time Portland Thorns FC stand as the most successful club in league history with three championships from four final appearances.
- + All-Time Fastest hat trick in NWSL history: Ludmila nets three goals in just 10 minutes and 9 seconds (75:18–85:27) for Chicago Stars FC against North Carolina Courage.
The NWSL has been home to some of the most iconic players in the women’s game. U.S. legends such as Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, Abby Wambach, and Carli Lloyd have all left their mark on the league, inspiring the next generation. The competition has also attracted world-class international talent, including Sam Kerr (Australia), Marta (Brazil), Christine Sinclair (Canada), Jess Fishlock (Wales), and Rachel Daly (England). Beyond the trophies and milestones, moments like Lo’eau LaBonta’s unforgettable goal celebrations, the “Trin Spin,” and Alex Morgan’s Challenge Cup heroics have helped define the league’s unique character and global appeal.
