Pete Sampras retired after wining 64 singles titles
In 2003 American tennis player Pete Sampras officially retired from professional tennis after a victorious career, making him one of the most renowned players in the world. He was recognized as an exceptional all-rounder player that enabled him to win 14 grand slam titles, 7 at Wimbledon and 5 at the US Open.
However, Sampras was not an overnight success taking two laborious years on the professional tour before he was labelled a big match player. His domination of professional tennis took place in the 90s playing alongside competitors such as Andre Agassi. Between 1994 and 2000 most of his major titles where acquired. Leaving his last victory in 2002 winning the US open. Overall, on top of his 14 grand slam titles, Sampras acquired a record breaking 64 singles titles, ranking him within the top ten player of all time. This resulted in him being inducted into the international Tennis Hall of Fame in 2007.
